Nature-Based Solutions for Environmental and Development Challenges
Current Postdoctoral Research Projects
Bezaye’s research primarily focuses on the intersection between science and policy in the Carbon market space. Her work has applications in economic, agricultural, and environmental policy sectors, and she collaborates with organizations such as the Baker Institute for public policy and BCarbon. Bezaye is currently working on three main projects:
Prospects for Emerging Carbon Markets in Africa with specific focus to Ethiopia as a case study. Bezaye believes that there is potential for carbon markets, and countries in developing nations such as those in Africa need to be connected to the emerging carbon markets. She is researching the prospects of these markets in Africa, using Ethiopia as a case for the land-based ecosystem potentials for carbon credit generation.

Connecting urban communities to the Emerging Carbon Markets, for which she chose to research compost programs as a first step. This project, based in Houston and Austin, looks at whether composts could contribute potentials as carbon sinks to be traded in carbon markets. Undergraduate student Kathryn Phung is currently working with Bezaye on this project.
